'dem Bones

Your body has 206 living bones that are constantly broken down and rebuilt in a process called "remodeling."

Calcium is needed to keep your bones strong - Vitamin D moves calcium from the intestine to the bloodstream and finally into your bones!

Calcium Supplements

The absorption of calcium by the body is increased when a calcium supplement is taken with a meal.

Be sure to consult your personal physician - calcium can decrease the effects of many medications by binding to them or changing the acidity of the stomach or urine.

For years, women have been told to drink milk to maintain bone density and prevent osteoporosis. Are dairy products the best sources of calcium?

Finish Your Milk - Was Mom Right?

You may remember your mother requiring you to "finish your milk" before getting up from the dinner table. To this day I wonder if my mother was paid by the dairy council...if not she should have been! Like yours, my mom got her information from the dairy community who touted milk as the best source of calcium. But is it?

Calcium Does a Body Good !

Calcium is essential for good health - Calcium Does a Body Good! But what about milk as a source of calcium?

Did you know there is a medical debate over the issue of calcium from milk? Some doctors don't agree with the dairy council! Here's why.

Calcium is pulled from bones to transport digested protein through the body - protein from any source. Some doctors warn that drinking lots of milk, because of it's high protein content coupled with the normal high protein diet, may actually cause people to lose calcium !

Lets look at the math, you lose 1.75 milligrams of calcium for every ounce of protein you ingest. Each glass of milk provides 8 grams of protein and has 300 milligrams of calcium lactate, which is only 30% absorbable. That leaves 76 milligrams of calcium available. One estimate is that the average American consumes 75 grams of animal protein per day, outside of milk protein. This leaves a deficit of 55 milligrams of calcium!

Pro-dairy folks argue that other ingredients such as phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin D and potassium - all associated with bone health - outweigh this risk.

But as we explained on the main page the US RDA of calcium is 1000 mg - and we've always been told milk is where we get our calcium from. The math says otherwise. Chances are if you aren't getting calcium from another source - you are calcium deficient.

If breakfast cereal with calcium enriched soy milk doesn't excite you, or you don't get collard greens with your Big Mac - calcium supplements are a very good idea for everyone!

We recommend our calcium supplement formulated from genuine Okinawan marine bed coral calcium - it's a natural source of calcium with nearly 100% absorption rate!

Understanding Calcium - An Essential Mineral

Element calcium is an essential mineral that composes your bones and teeth and insures their strength. Calcium also circulates in your blood and is essential for life. For example, your muscles need calcium to contract - including your heart - and your nervous system uses calcium to transmit electrical impulses.

By the age of 18 you've developed 98% of your bone mass, however, your bones are constantly being regenerated. Children need a good calcium supplement because the bone core is formed during adolescence. Exercise during adolescence has been shown to be as important, if not more so, to crucial bone building during these years!

Adults should have a good calcium supplement as well - calcium is deposited on the surface of bones and grow, like rings on a tree, as the bones diameter expands the bone gets stronger. If your diet is calcium deficient then your body will draw the calcium it needs from your bones - as a result your bones lose calcium faster than it is replaced - leaving them brittle and susceptible to fractures!

Osteoporosis - Not About Women Only

Women, because of menopause and susceptibility for osteoporosis, have been a target for calcium supplementation for years - this has left men with the presupposition that osteoporosis is a "woman's disease." However, osteoporosis is rapidly increasing in men, possibly a result of this thinking. The latest studies have shown that 3 out of 4 men don't get an adequate supply of daily calcium!

Calcium and Weight Loss

Studies now show that calcium changes the efficiency of weight loss, a higher calcium diet favors burning rather than storing fat.

One company, Fast Weight Loss Diet Center, bases it's weight loss program on combating somatopause through an HGH releaser coupled with diet pills. Interestingly their diet pills are built upon a base of calcium as the stabilizing agent in which they correctly state, "Calcium is the stabilizing mineral for the Krebs or citric acid cycle to metabolize glycogen."
